The primary sources I chose follow a chronological order of events that help explain what events happened before, during, and after the formation of the Church Committee, and how these events create a general understanding of why the committee was seen as necessary. The sources’ places of origin range from the United States, Latin America, the Soviet Union, and China. These diversified sources allow different perspectives to be shown that offer a more complete understanding of the Church Committee and its functions. The primary sources include a few from the 1960s that help to understand the climate that preceded the Church Committee, formed in 1975. A few are from the year the Church Committee was created, and the rest are from afterwards. The last ones help show the legacy and consequences of the Church Committee, and demonstrate how it continued to shape the ever-changing relationship between the United States and Latin America.
